Over the last year the Boone County Sheriff's Office has been working diligently with the county attorney to come up with a sensible animal control ordinance that fits and works for everyone in the county. Taking care of the animals that live in this county is an important mission for the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
Over the last two weeks there have been a lot of expressed emotions and feelings of many people throughout the county that have reviewed this draft ordinance. It has always been our intent to do the right thing with everyone’s best interests in mind, including the animals.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the most recent animal control ordinance proposal.
Attached you will find an ordinance that incorporates several changes, deletions, and additions from everyone’s input.
I hope that this recent ordinance will satisfy those that recommended these changes.
The Boone County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 am this coming Monday (11/20/2017) to review and possibly adopt this new ordinance as written.
The Sheriff's Office looks forward to the passing of this ordinance as it will play a crucial role in the future as our county continues to grow in both residents and animal in both the urban and the rural areas of the county. We also look forward to implementing the county’s first ever Animal Control Officer on January 1, 2018.
I want to thank everyone for their input and for helping us through the last couple of weeks. I assure you, it has not been an easy task but I feel we have accomplished much.
