September of 2007, The Humane Society for Boone County was organized by citizens of Boone County to continue the task of animal rescue for homeless domestic animals. Our primary mission is the rescue and adoption of homeless and endangered domestic animals. We are advocates for public education of humane animal care and the public awareness of current animal regulations.
The Humane Society for Boone County, during our ninth year of operation (2016), was excited to announce that we had reached our goal of establishing a physical animal shelter to serve Boone County and we now continue to build on that success moving into our 10th year and beyond.
The new Humane Society for Boone County Animal Shelter is located at 5366 South Indianapolis Road between State Road 267 and Whitestown Parkway.
The entire HSforBC Board of Directors is beyond excited about taking possession of this facility and for being able to take another giant leap toward providing an even better service to the abandoned, neglected, and homeless animals of Boone County. The pathway to this goal has often been thankless and difficult, but dedication, determination, and a concerted effort by all of the board members (both past and present, seen and unseen) have guided us thru to this achievement. We must also thank our volunteers and donors who have helped to propel us for ward while never losing hope, but providing inspiration.
We have moved into the new facility but it will take us a little time to settle into our new home and adjust operations to working out of a physical shelter. We must also do a bit of remodeling and some new construction to create a space that is most conducive to doing business. We want everyone to come see the new shelter and will host an open house just as soon as feasible, so stay tuned for the announcement and come tour our new facility. We will open to the public just quickly as possible.
HSforBC provides food, healthcare, vaccinations and spay and neuter services for all animals in our care.
The Humane Society for Boone County is 100% volunteer operated and receives no tax dollars. Every person in our organization works for free because of our love of animals.
